Types of works

There are a range of relocation work types depending on how nbn® assets need to be moved.

Knowing the right type helps your application progress smoothly.

In some cases, other service providers or registered cablers may be able to help you. If that applies to you, you won’t need to submit a relocation works application.

Location of nbn assets

Relocating assets within your property boundary

We can help to move nbn assets for projects that require:

  • Removal before demolition
  • Converting aerial cables underground
  • Lead in relocations
  • Changes to shared nbn assets in multi-unit buildings (such as network cabinets or shared connection points)
  • Moving nbn asset mounted outside your building (for example, the nbn utility box or outdoor antenna)
  • Moving nbn assets installed inside properties, where a registered cabler cannot help

Relocating assets outside your property boundary

We can help to move nbn assets for projects that require:

  • Pit relocations
  • Change to trafficable pit lid
  • Aerial network or pole relocations
  • Pillar, node and cabinet relocations
  • Relocation of nbn assets housed within third party infrastructure (for example, nbn assets inside a Telstra pit)
  • Major relocation of nbn assets required for council projects, road upgrades or major infrastructure works

Keep in mind that we can only help with our assets, which are often marked by nbn branding.

Illustration of converting aerial cables to underground

An illustration showing an aerial cable (shown as purple) connecting from an nbn pit located outside the property boundary, to the nbn Premises Connection Device (PCD) located inside the property boundary. The PCD is also known as the nbn utility box. It connects to the nbn Network Termination Device (NTD), also known as the nbn connection box.

You can apply with us to relocate and convert the aerial cables underground.

In this case, we will relocate the lead-in cable (shown as green) from the nbn pit network outside the property boundary and connect to the PCD using an underground pathway.

Check your nbn technology type

You’ll need to know the nbn technology type for your property to complete your application. If you’re not sure what it is, you can check your address before starting your application.

For further assistance

If your nbn-supplied equipment is missing, please reach out to your provider and let them know. They will help arrange for new nbn equipment to be installed if required.

You may not need to submit an application. A registered cabler can often move your nbn connection box or related cabling in properties with an nbn Fixed Line connection.

If you're making changes like removing walls or redesigning office layouts in your new location, your service provider can help determine if nbn can assist or whether a registered cabler is required.

You can find a registered cabler through the Australian Registered Cablers website*
