START AHEAD WITH nbn PRE-INSTALLATION

Get a property nbn ready

It’s easy to ensure a new home can be connected to the nbn network before move-in day, simply by arranging for pre-installation of the nbn connection box in your build plans and placing a request below.

Why opt for pre-installation of the nbn® connection box?

What you need to know

What is an nbn pre-installation?

An nbn pre-installation is the installation of the nbn connection box and nbn® fibre cable in an eligible property. nbn® fibre is extended from the street into a home while it’s still being built. This means you don’t have to worry about any impact to your landscaping or driveways, or wait around for a technician to visit down the track after moving in*.

Standard pre-installations are at no additional cost and carried out by a certified nbn pre-installer once the ‘lock-up’ phase has been finalised. The pre-installation will need to take place at least 3 weeks before the estimated home completion date. We will work with the site supervisor to organise the installation of equipment to your preferred location (if available) inside and outside your premises. Conditions and eligibility criteria apply^.

When should I request a pre-installation?

A request can then be made during the ‘Frame’ stage. The installation of equipment and nbn fibre in the premises will occur between completion of ‘Lock up’ stage and commencement of ‘Fit-out’ stage.

How is an nbn pre-installation completed?

  1. Builders need to do some basic preparation work for the installation of the nbn equipment. Download our guide; Prepare for Pre-installation by Installing Lead-in Conduit, for further instructions.
  2. Once the nbn pre-installation request is completed, the site supervisor will be contacted by nbn to arrange an appointment.
  3. During the appointment, the site supervisor will need to give the nbn pre-installer access to the property.
  4. The actual installation of internal equipment and wiring can take approximately 1 hour. Where external equipment is required, based on the infrastructure, the process will take longer. The property should be locked up once work for the day is complete.
  5. Once handover is complete, activation can be done through the residents’ preferred phone or internet service provider, without a technician visit.
  6. Download the nbn move in day guide for residents, so they can have an easier move in experience.
