nbn® Technology Choice Program

Before you request a quote

While you don’t need to have an active service over the nbn network, your address must be ‘ready to connect’. We will let you know if your address is not eligible for the nbn Technology Choice Program.

Due to the intricacies involved in generating and processing quotes for complex premises, we are only accepting applications for some single premises at this time.

Prior to starting your application there are a few things to keep in mind:

As a technology switch is considered additional activity to our rollout plans, there are build costs associated with these types of changes if you want to proceed. These costs can be significant in many cases, and are non-refundable.
Construction work will be required in your street, around and inside your premises as part of the application process. This can take approximately six months or more to complete.

We are currently unable to provide quotes for premises considered to be complex. These premises usually require a manual assessment and validation before we can provide a quote. Please refer to our website in the future for updates as we continue to optimise the nbn Technology Choice Program.

More information and assistance 

The nbn Technology Choice Program is available for locations that are ‘ready to connect’ or connected to the nbn network. We use addresses in our system to determine your connection status and the costs to change to nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).

There may be times where certain addresses don’t register in our system. If you cannot find your address in the online quote form, please contact a phone or internet provider. The provider will contact nbn to assist in registering your address.

The build cost covers the work required to change the nbn technology infrastructure at your location, including design, construction, testing and activation of your new connection. Your quote is based on the complexity of construction needed in your unique scenario.

No, unfortunately the Group Switch application option is not available at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.

As part of our network investment plan, nbn is extending access to fibre into eligible towns and suburbs around Australia that are currently serviced by nbn® Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and nbn Fibre to the Curb (FTTC). This will enable eligible customers to be able to upgrade to nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) by ordering a plan based on eligible wholesale speed tiers◊.

If you would like to apply for a change of technology and your location is soon eligible for this alternative option, then a quote for the nbn Technology Choice Program is no longer necessary.

Conditions, eligibility criteria and costs will apply – please speak with your preferred provider. Eligibility criteria includes among other things, being designated by nbn as a simple premises and placing an order for an nbn powered plan based on an eligible wholesale speed tier where required. Additional costs may apply to providers, who may choose to pass this charge onto their customers.
