nbn is participating in the Australian Government’s Alternative Voice Services Trials Program.
This program has been set up to investigate alternative ways of delivering voice services to help people in Australia’s regional and remote areas.
Delivering up to 260 trial services across Australia via participating phone and internet providers, nbn’s trial will focus on testing voice services over the nbn™ Fixed Wireless and nbn™ Satellite networks, as well as over a new low band Fixed Wireless solution.
These three technologies will cover the following areas:
Trial voice services offered as part of this program are free for triallists and will operate as an additional service to the existing phone and internet services at their premises. The participants will be required to maintain their existing phone service for the duration of the trial.
The key to this trial is ensuring nbn receives real-time feedback from the people participating, via their provider. This will assist nbn and the Australian Government in developing voice solutions that help meet the needs of people living in regional and remote areas.
nbn will be working closely with participating providers so the trial can deliver successful outcomes from both a wholesale and retail perspective.
As part of the program, the broadband plan that is being used to support the trial voice service will be covered by wholesale rebates, so the people taking part won’t incur any additional costs. There is also a financial incentive of up to $400 available to providers to be passed on to trial participants.
End users can apply through a participating provider from now through to 30 September 2021 at the latest, with the deadline for applications to depend on logistics at each premises. Trial services will operate until 30 June 2022.
Speak to a participating provider for more information about the trial such as costs, incentive and timings.
