nbn™ coming to town as Wodonga gets ready to switch on

07 November 2016

Border residents and business operators have a unique opportunity this week to find out all they need to know about the nbn network.

With the network set to switch on in parts of Wodonga this month, nbn is holding a number of events in Wodonga and Albury over the next two weeks.

The first, known as the nbn™ Connect Roadshow, will run from 7-20 November and will celebrate the network’s arrival, as well as giving people the information they need to make the switch to the nbn™ network via their service provider.

Visitors to the Connect Roadshow can use large interactive touchscreens to check whether the nbn™ network is available at their address and to find out which nbn™ speed tier is recommended for their household. The nbn™ team will be on hand to answer any other questions people might have and to help local residents understand how access to the nbn™ network can benefit their household.

nbn, the company building Australia’s fast broadband network, will also host two community events at The Cube Wodonga – the nbn™ Residential Community Expo on Tuesday (8 November) and the nbn™ Business Expo on Wednesday (9 November).

nbn spokesperson Michael Moore said:

“With the nbn network already available in parts of Albury and about to start switching on in Wodonga, we encourage people to check out the Connect Roadshow or to drop into one where they can meet the nbn team, as well as representatives from telephone and internet service providers.

“It’s a great way to learn what the nbn for you and your home or business.

The nbn™ team will also head out to a range of community events such as markets and sports days to talk to the locals about the network.”

Wodonga City Council Economic Development Manager, Adam Wiseman said:

“Wodonga Council welcomes the start of the switch-on of the nbn network across the city.

"Access to the nbn network is as much a business necessity as a social asset. Our key sectors, including the health, education, manufacturing and professional services, will benefit from the opportunities it will bring to the region, not to mention the boost it will provide residents in keeping connected to family and friends and having key information at their fingertips."

Notes to editors

About nbn:

  • nbn is building a new and upgraded, fast wholesale broadband network to enable communities across Australia to access fast broadband from their retail service provider. Our goal is to connect eight million homes and businesses by 2020.
  • Fast broadband such as that delivered via the nbn™ network can provide a range of benefits for Australians such as opportunities to work from home, access to online education tools and options for on-demand entertainment.
  • End-user experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network, depends on the technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside our control such as equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal reception and how the end-user’s service provider designs its network. Access to your work network will depend on factors outside our control, such as your organisation’s IT policy and infrastructure.
