A step-by-step guide to connecting your home

Step 1

Check your address to see if the nbn™ broadband access network is available at your premises

If the nbn™ broadband access network is available at your address.

Contact a phone or internet provider and choose a plan that suits your needs. There is no need to contact nbn directly.

If the nbn™ broadband access network is not yet available at your address.

You can stay informed by registering for email updates. We'll let you know when your home is ready to connect. Keep in mind once you receive confirmation to switch, you will have approximately 18 months to move before the existing network is switched off.*

Step 2

Prepare to switch

Regardless of whether the nbn™ broadband access network is available in your area, there are things you can do to prepare for the switch. This will ensure that your move will be as seamless as possible – it will also mean and that you can enjoy the benefits faster.

Your existing services may be affected

The rollout of the nbn™ access network will involve new technologies and some existing devices and services may not be compatible with these at all times.

If you have any of the following devices or services, contact your provider or register with us so that we can support you to help minimise a break in services.

Other things to consider

In some instances, switching may not be so straight forward. This includes new developments, granny flats, out-buildings and complex installations - particularly those that require trenching or additional cabling.

Step 3

Choose a provider and order a plan

You won’t be connected automatically, so contact your preferred phone or internet provider to discuss your requirements and select the most appropriate plan for your needs.

It’s a good idea to switch well before your disconnection date to allow time for your order to be processed, and installation if applicable.

*nbn is a provider of wholesale speeds to phone and internet providers. Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ broadband access network, is determined by your provider and the nbn™ powered plan you choose, the technology over which services are delivered to your premises, and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality and software). Sky Muster™ satellite customers may experience latency. nbn™ wholesale speed tiers available to your provider vary depending on the access technology in your area.
