Make sure your new home is nbn™ ready

Building a new home?

The average Australian household will have over 30 connected devices by 2021. An nbn™ ready home is designed for supporting this kind of future, helping to give you the opportunity to do and experience more, from the comfort of your own home.

Plan ahead

Think about how you plan to use the phone and internet in your new home. Make a note of the services you will use in each room, including the phone and data points you will need.

Speak to your developer/builder

Mark where you want to place the phone and data points (and any connections) on a plan of your home. Keep your plans safe and handy, so you’re ready to discuss them with your developer or builder.

nbn™ supplied equipment

Depending on when you move in, you may be able to have input on where this equipment is installed (subject to certain requirements). It’s also worth considering your in-home cabling needs and discussing these with a registered cabler.

About to move in?

Check your address to find out if the nbn™ access network is available at your new home and contact a provider to pick an nbn™ powered plan that suits your needs.

Get everyone online together as soon as you move in.

By contacting your preferred phone and internet provider before you move in, you can pre-order an nbn™ powered plan and help to make the most of services over the nbn™ access network from day one.

Retail speeds from your provider

Talk to your provider about your specific needs and the speed tiers available in your area. You should also talk to them about the actual speeds you can expect to experience – particularly between 7pm and 11pm when internet traffic is at its peak.

End user contribution charge

nbn is required to charge the phone or internet service provider a one-time user contribution of $300 (inc. GST) for the first connection to a new development. A service provider has the choice to on-charge this amount to the end user at their discretion.

Check your address to find out if the nbn™ access network is available at your premises.

*Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network, depends on the nbn™ access network technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network). Speeds may be impacted by network congestion on nbn’s Fixed Wireless network, including during busy periods. Satellite users may experience latency.
