Outage Start Time

09/01/2026 at 10:47 AEDT.

Update

The Mount Alexander Fixed Wireless site remains offline after sustaining fire damage to key equipment on the tower, which is preventing the site from operating normally. The location is still considered hazardous, and access is being managed under strict safety controls.

To the extent possible, neighbouring towers are being utilised to provide services, however distance, terrain and insufficient signal strength from alternative towers means that some services remain impacted.

Among those services that have been migrated, some customers are experiencing service levels similar to before the bushfire, while others are experiencing reduced speeds and intermittent performance because the temporary coverage does not provide the same signal quality as their original serving tower.

If it is safe to do so, repair activities are expected to start on Friday 16 January 2026, and services are expected to gradually return over the following days. All required equipment, replacement parts and materials have already been pre‑staged to support the recovery.

Once the Mount Alexander tower is back online, services at the Harcourt North and Harcourt South towers (both of which depend on Mount Alexander) will also come back into service. Services that were temporarily moved to neighbouring towers will then be returned to their usual serving tower.

Services impacted

As at 16:10 AEDT on 15/01/2026, 587 Fixed Wireless end users are currently unable to access the nbn® network.

Assessments and equipment repairs will take place in areas when safe access is available.

Since the last update, a fixed wireless site in Mount Alexander is suspected to have been damaged by bushfires, which is impacting services in the Mount Alexander and Harcourt areas. When conditions are safe, on-site assessment will be required to determine the extent of the damage to nbn® infrastructure (including engineering inspection of cabling and hardware integrity) and safety checks will be completed to ensure the tower is secure before any necessary restoration work begins. At this stage, the fixed wireless towers in Harcourt North and Harcourt South which rely on the Mount Alexander site appear to be operational.
