Medical Alarm Register terms and conditions

1. You confirm that to the best of your knowledge any information you submit to the nbn Medical Alarm Register is correct and accurate.

2. Registering a medical alarm on the MAR will allow nbn to identify households or premises with medical alarms where action may be needed to help minimise a break in service.

3. The rollout of the nbn® network involves new technologies and some existing devices, including medical alarms, may not be compatible with these at all times.

4. If you have a medical alarm you should contact the medical alarm service or device provider for more information about whether the medical alarm will be capable of working normally over the nbn network, and, if necessary, what alternative solutions are available. In many cases, professionally monitored medical alarm service providers may be able to recommend and supply a new medical alarm unit that will no longer rely on the fixed line network.

5. nbn is not in a position to provide advice about specific devices due to the wide range of different devices in the market.

6. You acknowledge it is your responsibility to contact your medical alarm service or device provider prior to moving your phone services to the nbn network.

7. You acknowledge that:

  1. registration on the medical alarms register does not result in any obligation on nbn to ensure that the medical alarm has been moved onto the nbn network, or that it works on the nbn network; and
  2. if you are supplying nbn with the personal information of another person/people as part of this Medical Alarm Registration process, you have their informed consent* to do so.

*For clarity, for this consent to be valid, it must be specific, informed, provided voluntarily and by a person with capacity to provide such consent.

8. nbn collects personal information about you to assist with the migration of critical services including medical alarms. Personal information provided to nbn may be used by nbn for:

  • adding personal information on nbn’s Medical Alarm Register;
  • monitoring the migration status of medical alarms;
  • dealing with future queries you may make to nbn;
  • providing the contact person and/or residents at the premises with further information in relation to the nbn network; and
  • matters associated with compatibility of medical alarm services on the nbn network.

9. This information may be disclosed to related entities of nbn, third parties who provide services related to the roll out of the nbn network and the disconnection process, medical alarm service providers, medical alarm device providers, retail network service providers, the Minister for Communications, the Office of the Minister for Communications, and the Department of Communications and the Arts.

10. nbn’s Privacy Policy at nbnco.com.au/privacy sets out how we handle your personal information, how you can access or correct your personal information, or make a complaint  about nbn’s handling of your personal information and how we will deal with your complaint.
