NBN Co withdraws SAU variation to address feedback

02 November 2018

NBN Co has informed the ACCC of its decision to withdraw its proposed variation to the Special Access Undertaking (SAU), lodged in June 2017, to address feedback from retail service providers on the regulation of wholesale pricing over time.

Retail providers continue to play an important role in shaping our pricing approach, therefore we plan to submit a new SAU variation that provides additional price certainty for retailers as requested. We also seek to provide flexibility to evolve our wholesale pricing in the future to continue to meet the needs of both NBN Co and retail providers, as we seek to strike the right balance between meeting their needs, enabling a good experience for homes and businesses using the network, and providing a modest economic return for the Australian taxpayer.

The new variation will also include the changes proposed in the previous version, including extending the scope of the SAU to reflect new technologies introduced as part of the Multi-Technology Mix.

NBN Co looks forward to working with the ACCC and industry as it develops a new variation.

The current SAU accepted by the ACCC in 2013 remains in operation.
