Telstra, Vocus and TPG Telecom join an industry trial to deliver a new enterprise-grade product over the nbn™ broadband access network for Australian businesses.

Since establishing NBN Co’s dedicated business team, we’ve made significant strides working alongside phone and internet providers to launch new product and service enhancements to benefit the enterprise and government market.

Late last year, we announced plans to accelerate the launch of nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet because of increased market demand.

Today, I’m pleased to announce we have commenced an industry trial that will see us working with Telstra, Vocus and TPG Telecom before we officially launch the product to market, which we expect to do in the third quarter of 2018.

What is nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet?

nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet is a direct fibre broadband product designed to provide access to wholesale high-bandwidth initially capable of up to 1Gbps* symmetrical speeds and optimised operational support for large businesses and government customers.

The product is designed to meet international enterprise broadband standards and can be used by phone and internet providers to provide large organisations with the ability to run data-intensive applications such as Virtual Private Networks (VPN), multiple voice lines and cloud-based solutions.

What will the trial deliver?

In the early stages of the trial, we will work with participating phone and internet providers to select a number of participating business customers where our focus will be on the infrastructure design and build.

The trial will give participating providers the opportunity to provide feedback on the design and delivery of the product, and aim to ensure it’s a competitive and valuable option for their enterprise customers.

Telstra, Vocus and TPG Telecom will work closely with NBN Co’s newly-established business division throughout this process to help ensure it provides the intended benefit and service level to enterprise customers.

What happens next?

Later this year, we will begin to test the performance of the product as well as internal processes to help ensure we are enabling phone and internet providers to meet the growing needs of enterprises.

nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet is just one part of the rollout of the nbn™ access network, which is one of the biggest transformations to Australia’s telecommunications industry.

Our progress in launching this new product demonstrates our commitment to working with industry to deliver enterprise-grade broadband solutions that can help businesses to boost competition and lower operating costs.

*Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ broadband access network, depends on the technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, signal quality, broadband plans and how your service provider designs its network). nbn is a provider of wholesale speeds to internet providers. nbn™ wholesale speed tiers available to your internet provider vary depending on the access technology in your area.
