Pelago East Apartment complex goes live with NBN in Karratha

NBN Co welcomes residents at Pelago East Apartments, in the heart of Karratha, to world class broadband as they are able to connect to the national broadband high-speed network.

This development is one of the largest of its kind connected to the National Broadband Network (NBN) in Western Australia, with close to 180 apartments.

NBN Co spokesperson Peter Gurney said this is exciting news for residents at Pelago East who can now access and take full advantage of what is on offer with fast broadband.

“It’s not just high speeds but what the residents can enable that makes the NBN such an exciting prospect for people in Karratha. People can work efficiently from home; have multiple devices connected at once, or connect video calls without worrying about constant drop outs,*”

The apartment complex was officially opened on 30 November 2013 by West Australian Premier Colin Barnett.

“The NBN is now available to the residents at the complex - as soon as they move in they can have access to services delivered over the NBN.

“Now is the time to connect, I recommend residents call their preferred phone or internet company to choose from a great range of competitively-priced packages over the NBN,” Mr Gurney said.

Over 20,000 premises can connect to the National Broadband Network in Western Australia.

• NBN Co in line with the Government’s interim Statement of Expectations is currently conducting a Strategic Review. The Review will determine how best to provide access to very fast broadband to all Australians as soon, cost-effectively and affordably as possible.

• Areas within suburbs will have different switch off dates for different services depending on when the NBN becomes available.^
• Home and business owners who will have their landline phone, ADSL internet and Telstra cable internet services disconnected will receive letters from NBN Co with details about how to switch to the NBN.
• Homes and businesses that have an existing medical or security alarm systems should contact their alarm provider and phone company to enquire about their current system and how it will work on the NBN.

* End user experience including the speeds actually achieved over the NBN depends on some factors outside our control like end user equipment quality, software, broadband plans and how the service provider designs its network. Access to your work network will depend on factors outside our control like your organisation’s IT policy and infrastructure.

^# The new fibre maps identify one or more construction areas where NBN Co has commenced building or intends to build its fibre optic network. From the commencement of work through to when services “go live’ for a construction area, NBN Co undertakes a series of construction steps that my result in changes to the design of the network in the respective area, possibly involving the movement of the boundaries. NBN Co may update the maps in the future in the event of boundary changes during construction.
