Can a phone or internet service provider apply for an Area Switch?

nbn does not contemplate that there will be an interest from  phone or internet service providers, Retail Service Providers (RSP), in applying for an Area Switch. Once an area is built by  nbn (through the Technology Choice Program or otherwise) it will become part of  nbn’s fibre footprint and become available to all RSPs on an equal basis. However, if RSPs have an interest in applying for an Area Switch, they should contact  nbn to discuss.

In most Area Switch cases, applicants include incorporated associations, bodies corporate of MDUs, local government authorities and state government bodies. Applications must be submitted by an individual representing a group of premises (the size of an area is recommended to be 150-350 premises).
