nbn enhances commitment to participation and digital inclusion in new Reconciliation Action Plan

21 September 2016

nbn – the company building and operating Australia’s Broadband Network – has today improved its commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with its second Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Key initiatives include supporting people and organisations in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities bridge the digital divide, and new actions with the company’s delivery partners for improved employment opportunities and use of Indigenous businesses in the construction of the nbn™ network.

The 2016-18 RAP was developed in close consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives, including nbn staff, and will form a blueprint for the company in its partnership with these communities over the next three years.

It builds on achievements from company’s inaugural RAP, including the adoption of cultural heritage management procedures that aim to protect sites of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander significance during construction, and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students through internships and scholarships.
