New nbn deals to design and build first FTTC homes

nbn has signed three Design and Construction Master Agreements (DCMA) for the build of approximately 525,000 premises in Sydney and Melbourne. While most of these homes will be served with nbn’s latest technology, Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), some may be connected via Fibre-to the Premises, Node or Basement (FTTP/N/B).
It was a big year in Western Australia as the nbn ramped up construction across a number of areas, hitting more than 360,000 premises now able to connect and surpassing more than 140,000 premises active on the nbn™ network.

Australians are set to have their most connected holiday season ever, with internet usage expected to surge by 30 per cent this December compared with the same time last year, according to a new research report released by nbn.
nbn is within sight of hitting the major construction milestone of 200,000 premises ready for service in Tasmania, rounding out a huge year in which the network footprint has increased by more than 65 per cent in the State.

nbn delivers 8Gbps over copper lines on XG.FAST trial

nbn’s lab trials of ground breaking new copper acceleration technology, XG.FAST, have achieved a peak aggregate speed of 8Gbps over 30 metres of twisted-pair copper. This equates to around 900 times faster than the average broadband speed of 8.5Mbps being delivered to Australians in 2Q16 according to the latest Akamai State of the Internet Report.
G.Fast set for nearly 30 million end users by 2021

A new Ovum report jointly commissioned by nbn and BT has predicted that new ultra-fast copper technology G.fast will be serving nearly 30 million subscriber homes and businesses around the world by 2021. This is just four years after the first commercial G.fast services are due to launch in 2017.
nbn signs agreements for new housing developments and fibre links

nbn has signed contracts with two delivery partners, and each will run over four years. The DCMAs will deliver the nbn™ network to new development premises using our MTM as well as to nbn’s fibre links that support the underlying infrastructure of the nbn™ network.
