The Entrance opens the door to the nbn™ network

As the nbn™ network starts to roll into The Entrance, we look at the town best known for its magnificent beaches, camping and relaxed atmosphere.

Towns and cities all across Australia are beginning to connect to the nbn™ network, so we’re celebrating the historic moments, landmarks or features that put each area on the map.

Although this NSW coastal hot spot has long been known as one of Australia’s favourite East Coast weekend getaways, it’s the locals that are the real winners, constantly treated to breathtakingly beautiful beaches and magnificent camping locations on their very doorstep.

The Entrance is located perfectly between Sydney and Newcastle and is situated at the gateway between the Pacific Ocean and Tuggerah Lakes. After a few decades of debate, the name was derived from ‘Karagi’ meaning ‘the way in’ or 'the entrance'.

The small town has a somewhat scandalous history, originally being founded by Europeans in 1796 while on a search to find escaped convict woman Mary Morgan.

As the area became more populated, people shortly realised its potential as a getaway destination and the first guest house was built in 1885.

Today, the well-established town has plenty of activities on offer. Aside from exploring and relaxing on the beach, popular things to do include bike rides along the path to nearby Chittaway Point, afternoons spent at one of many picnic spots, playing in the local playgrounds, and of course joining the daily 3pm pelican feeding.

The warm and welcoming community have created a real charm to the area and could certainly be considered as the true heart behind this beloved coastal location.

Now the nbn™ network has started rolling out into town, local businesses, residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy the benefits of fast broadband services over the nbn™ network!

In our next series we travel to Bundamba. Check out our On the Map homepage for more.
