Richmond and Windsor switch on to the National Broadband Network

16 August 2013

Hawkesbury Chamber of Commerce welcomes the benefits of superfast broadband

Richmond and Windsor are now switched on to the National Broadband Network, with 5,300 homes and businesses passed around March Street, Windsor Street and in South Windsor.

A further 4,100 premises are expected to go live around Richmond and Windsor in coming months. Construction has already commenced or is complete for around 59,000 premises in the greater Western Sydney area.

At an official ceremony in front of the iconic George Street Water Wheel, civic leaders gathered to welcome the opportunities the NBN would bring to the region.

“We have been anticipating the arrival of superfast broadband and the benefits it can bring to the local economy for a while and we welcome today’s announcement,” said Jason Pilgrim, President of Hawkesbury Chamber of Commerce.

“We look forward to witnessing the digital advancements that the rollout can deliver not only to local industries but also for households in the areas that get connected,” he said.

NBN Co Community Account Manager for NSW, Darren Rudd, urged eligible residents to upgrade to superfast broadband.

“Phone companies and internet service providers have a range of NBN packages that families and businesses can choose from.

“Over the NBN people in Richmond and Windsor can work from home with ease, enjoy video calls and shop and bank online without having to worry about constant drop outs. The NBN also allows families to have multiple devices online all at once without any annoying stuttering and buffering.”

The nationwide rollout of the NBN is due to be completed by 2021. NBN fibre construction has commenced or completed for more than 306,000 premises in NSW and construction is expected to have been commenced or completed for 1.4 million premises in the state by mid-2016^.
