nbn™ rollout gaining momentum in Victoria

15 December 2015

Growing number of homes and businesses can connect to fast network

Significant progress has been made this year in rolling out the nbn™ network in Victoria, with about 360,000 homes and businesses now able to connect – compared to about 186,000 in December 2014.

With the rollout gaining momentum across Victoria, work started last month in parts of Yuroke, Craigieburn, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Torquay, Bellbrae, Wallan, Whittlesea, Eden Park and Warragul.

More recently, work has started, or is about to start, in parts of Wangaratta, Newhaven, Breamlea, Warburton, Broadford, Garfield, Portarlington, St Leonards, Anglesea, Drouin, Craigieburn, Heathcote Junction, Wandong, Clonbinane, Shepparton, Kialla and the Moe-Yallourn area.

nbn spokesman Michael Moore said:

“The rollout of the nbn™ network in Victoria is really starting to ramp up as we head into the new year, with more than 125,000 premises scheduled to enter the construction stage in the first three months of 2016.

“As our recently released construction plan demonstrates, this momentum will continue to grow as work starts in large areas of metropolitan Melbourne and our regional cities and towns.

“By September 2018 it is expected there will be more than 2.5 million Victorians homes and businesses that can connect to the nbn™ network, or where construction has started.”

nbn, the company delivering access to fast broadband to all Australians, aims to connect eight million homes and businesses nationally by 2020.
