Gingin – it’s time to get connected

More than 660 homes and businesses within Gingin, Coonabigee, and Lennard Brooke are now able to connect to fast and reliable broadband following the official switch-on of the nbn™ network in the region.

These areas will be serviced by the nbn™ fixed wireless network which uses advanced technology commonly referred to as LTE or 4G and is engineered to deliver services to a fixed number of premises, meaning more reliable and consistent broadband even in peak times of use.

 

WA Corporate Affairs Manager Ebony Aitken said it is exciting news for locals as the service is designed to provide access to fast and reliable broadband that many in the big cities currently take for granted.

“Access to fast broadband is designed to provide a range of benefits such as improved opportunities to work from home, better access to online education and health tools and more options for on-demand entertainment*.

“Families will be able to be online at the same time, using multiple devices and all enjoying the same fast speeds.

“For businesses, be it e-commerce, sending and receiving files, accessing online services, internet and data security, cloud based sharing or communicating with staff and customers, all aspects will be faster and more efficient with the nbn™ network,” she said.

A recent study commissioned by nbn found that Australians are expected to spend an extra 22 days more on the internet this year than they did in 2014, with regional people accounting for the biggest increase in usage*.

“There’s no doubt the nbn™ network is bridging the digital divide between urban and regional Australia. In fact, the impact on regional workers is substantial with the greatest impact seen in the area of efficiency and productivity on the job,” she said.

“The research found that nbn-connected regional consumers find the internet a far more empowering tool for job productivity and professional development than those not on the nbn™ network, and they’re more likely to say it’s vital to their job or business.”

 

nbn’s network footprint recently expanded to three million premises now able to order an nbn service with more than 300,000 of those premises in Western Australia. To make the switch:
1. Check the nbn website www.nbn.com.au to see if you’re eligible to connect.
2. Contact your phone or internet provider to discuss your needs.
3. Your chosen provider will perform a service qualification check and, if successful, will arrange installation of the necessary nbn™ network equipment. There are no costs to install the nbn™ equipment.
