Become a skilled telecommunications professional as you learn the tools of the trade from industry experts on the job and earn nationally recognised qualifications.
If selected to be part of the Career Start Program you will be working for one of our Delivery Partners or their subcontractors who are working together to build the nbn™ network across Australia.
Successful Career Start applicants will have access to:
The building and development of the nbn™ network requires technically skilled workers. However, across the general population of Australia, there is a shortage of people who have the skills required to complete the work for the rollout of the nbn™ network.
The Career Start Program aims to provide training for these skill gaps and currently supports the roles of Telecommunications Linesworker and Cable Jointer.
A Linesworker’s daily job is to build and support the network lines that connects home and businesses across Australia to the broader nbn™ network. They install, monitor and replace cables in a variety of locations from poles in the air to underground units and everything in between. The varied technologies and systems they work on means Linesworkers interact with other telecommunications roles such as Cable Jointers or Designers, and will often work in teams to complete a job.
Linesworkers work across fibre, copper and HFC technologies. They are typically Certificate II level qualified in Telecommunications or similar.
Immediate need across various technologies including Fibre Optics, Copper, Hybrid fibre Co-axial (HFC). Read more about the technologies nbn is rolling out.
Career next steps:
As a qualified Linesworker you can continue on to become a Telecommunications Cable Jointer, Fibre Splicer or Technician through one of our training programs.
A Cable Jointer connects homes, businesses and other premises to the nbn™ network. They work autonomously or in teams with other Cable Jointers, Linesworkers or Designers. When in the field they need to quickly and accurately identify testing or system needs, and think on their feet to solve problems.
Cable jointing is a critical step in the nbn™ network connection process that allows high frequency data to be successfully communicated. Because of this, Cable Jointers must be highly skilled workers that join cables whilst maintaining high quality service. They are typically Certificate III level qualified in Telecommunications or similar.
Technologies rolling out:
Immediate need for Copper Cable Jointers.
Career next steps:
As a qualified Cable Jointer you can continue on to broaden your skills across other nbn™ technology areas through a cross-skill training pathway.
