NBN Co today switched on the NBN fibre network in South Hobart, with the help of young Hobart cricketers, superfast bowler Brett Lee and Australian international cricketer Pat Cummins.
The two cricket legends beamed the first-ever NBN-enabled cricket coaching clinic from the Sydney Cricket Ground to Hobart to showcase the benefits of superfast broadband.

The rollout of the National Broadband Network is gathering pace with news today that another four areas can access super-fast broadband.
The National Broadband Network has been switched on in parts of Coffs Harbour in NSW, Toowoomba in Queensland, Hobart, and Gungahlin in the ACT, allowing around 9000 local homes and businesses to access the service for the first time.

The Tasmanian town of Geeveston in the Huon Valley is the latest location to be selected for a National Broadband Network (NBN) satellite ground station to ensure Australians in isolated areas can connect to fast broadband.
The ground station will be an essential transmission centre connecting the ground-based National Broadband Network to NBN Co's two high performance satellites.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard just announced stage one of the National Broadband Network’s wide-scale rollout plan.
Over the next three years, construction of the fibre optic component of the NBN will be underway or completed in areas containing 3.5 million premises, in 1,500 communities across every state and territory in Australia.
